MWD was tasked to design, build and commission a wind turbine mooring system. The customer had a clear scope and specification for the requirements of the system, to which MWD provided the initial concept design for both the winches and the PLC controls. The prototype units where designed, built, factory tested and installed within time and budget.
After extensive sea trials, the units where developed further to incorporate more safety features for easy access to the wind turbine. With a combination of hydraulic and electrical PLC controls, the mooring winches are now a vital part of the workboat turbine access procedure, saving time and money at site.
The customer is now rolling out the system across their fleet as part of an ongoing process.
